On the evening of January 6th, 2022, 30 businesses with excellent results in building and developing brand names for products and services were honored at the award ceremony “Golden Brand of Ho Chi Minh City for the second time in 2021.” This year’s award-winning product brands have become encouraging bright spots in the context of the economy still affected by the epidemic, contributing to stimulating the recovery of the top trade-service center in the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Phan Van Mai, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, said, “In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has put the city under many challenges with great and unprecedented difficulties, in response to the call of the city, businesses have made efforts to overcome difficulties, adjust the scale and appropriate production methods to maintain production, minimize production costs in the chain of production, supply and circulation of goods; contribute to the city to ensure the needs of essential goods for more than 10 million people and medical resources to serve the prevention and control of the epidemic.
The COVID-19 pandemic also promotes the emergence of businesses with strong, impressive product brands that inspire constant efforts during the pandemic. And the company’s product brands that won this 2nd Ho Chi Minh City Golden Brand Award have demonstrated the relentless efforts, resilience, and creativity of the city’s business community, emphasized by Mr. Phan Van Mai.

The Ho Chi Minh City Golden Brand Award is an annual award directed by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to honor businesses with excellent results in building and developing product and service brands. The award was assigned by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City in collaboration with the Saigon Economic Review.

The award selection committee consists of reputable economic experts and consultants on brand building and development, including representatives of the Department of Industry and Trade, the Saigon Economic Review, the Institute of Strategy and Competition and the Vietnam Marketing Association.

According to Mr. Bui Ta Hoang Vu, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, the “2nd Ho Chi Minh City Gold Brand Award in 2021” was held in a special context because the fourth outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic had a profound impact, affecting all aspects of socio-economic life. Most businesses have to face many difficulties. Therefore, the Department of Industry and Trade has actively invited and encouraged businesses to participate in order to honor worthy faces after a year of facing unprecedented challenges.

The goal of the award is to honor local businesses that have made great efforts and successes in product branding and development, thus raising awareness among businesses about the role and importance of brand building and development as associated with the development of competitiveness of businesses.

With the award, the city wants to create a driving force to encourage businesses to actively innovate, create and develop sustainably, contributing to improving the competitive advantage of the city’s business brand in domestic and international markets.

“This year’s award takes place in the context of the complicated development of the epidemic, and the winning product brands are encouraging bright spots, creating a new growth motivation for the successful economic recovery and growth of the city”, emphasized Mr. Bui Ta Hoang Vu.

After only 2 months of launch, the award has attracted more than 60 businesses from the fields of 4 key industries and 9 service industries to register to participate.

After receiving applications from businesses, the Voting Council scored and selected worthy businesses based on 10 groups of criteria, including: criteria for transparency and legal compliance; operational efficiency; business ethic; social activities; personnel and personnel policy; research and development (R&D); innovation; generational vision; brand promotion and development; management system and brand coverage; quality and safety.

Mr. Tran Minh Hung, Editor-in-Chief of the Saigon Economic Review team and Chairman of the Selection Council for the Golden Brand Award, said that despite taking place in the very difficult context of the long and complex COVID-19 epidemic, the award has received the attention of businesses through careful and serious submissions. At the 2021 awards, the number of ineligible entries rejected is very small.

In addition, what is special about the 2021 awards is that, along with the participation of businesses in the city’s typical manufacturing and service industries, there are also hospitals. This is also quite understandable, because in the past year, Covid-19 has recorded the strong operation of these units, and hospitals are more concerned about investment and promoting their own business rather than just focusing on their specialty.

The list of award-winning brands in the service sector was honored this year, with the appearance of two frontline hospital brands from the city, which were also the frontline hospitals in the fight against the epidemic during the past 2 years of the pandemic. This is not only the recognition and encouragement of the city’s leaders and award organizers, but also the deep gratitude of the people of the city for the frontline forces who sacrificed and braved themselves to fight the epidemic in these times. In order to choose the golden brands for Ho Chi Minh City, the Voting Council took into account the factors of the community, the ability to overcome the extremely difficult situation because of the epidemic, as well as the sustainable development factors of the business.

“Sustainable development is an important factor because we, including the Voting Council, the Award Organizing Committee and businesses, all agree that in a dynamically developing city like Ho Chi Minh City, the sustainable development of the Golden Brand business is not only about achieving profits for the organization itself, but also contributing to the development of the community and society,” said Mr. Tran Minh Hung.

According to the evaluation of the Voting Council, most of the product/service brands of the winning enterprise have undergone a long process of formation and development and have established a solid position in the market, a high reputation in the minds of customers and made positive contributions to the economic development of the city.

As a result, the Voting Council has unanimously selected about 30 businesses with product and service brands for the Ho Chi Minh City Gold Brand Award in 2021.
